A day at a Dementia Day Care Group at Claygate Centre for the community can be hugely beneficial to people living with dementia, as well as their carers, who can take a break knowing their loved one is looked after.
Groups are run by specialists and volunteers who focus on the strengths and abilities of the person with dementia, to provide activities that will be engaging and suitable for everyone.
Each group has its own personality, following an ethos of living well with dementia. Members enjoy a range of activities and socialise in a safe and welcoming environment with trained staff on a 1-4 client ratio.
A lunch is provided along with drinks and snacks.
For those who are unable to make it to the groups, we provide door-to-door transport to their nearest group.
We understand that people may be reluctant to attend day groups, so we offer the opportunity to visit and view any of our groups before joining.
Attendance of the groups is subject to a home assessment, to ensure we know as much as possible about our new member; understanding their preferences, life history and expectations so that their time at the group is meaningful.
